In some forms of Greek mythology, it was believed that there were no female centaurs. A male would need to impregnate a human woman to achieve reproduction, but the birthing often killed the mother. :nod:

Oh, here's another one: the Greeks believed that lions could not reproduce with each other. Because the male had a mane and the female didn't, they were seen as different species. Lions had to mate with leopards in order to reproduce. This was brought up in one story in particular, during which Zeus cursed a pair of lovers by turning them both into lions -- and thus keeping them apart forever. ;)
